On the 8th of June 2023, the Dutch Government issued a communication ending access to temporary protection for third country nationals holding a temporary Ukrainian residence permit as of the 4th of September 2023.
In this letter to the ministries of Health, Welfare and Sports (VWS) and Justice and Safety (JenV), t.a.v. Secretary of State, Mr M. van Ooijen and Secretary of State, Mr E. van der Burg, FEANTSA, and its Dutch member Valente (the national association of shelters in the Netherlands) express our regret for this change in the Dutch legislation, and aim to raise awareness of the subsequent dangers it poses for this group of refugees for whom the right of residence and reception will soon be cancelled. The removal of this status will destablise the lives of third country nationals who have begun to build a life in the Netherlands, potentially exposing them to exploitation and placing them at risk of destitution and homelessness.
FEANTSA and Valente call on the state to provide third country nationals the same protection and rights as Ukranian citizens.
