Florent Gueguen, director of FNARS, has criticised the 115 emergency homeless helpline for not providing shelter to 57% of callers in December. With temperatures dropping, there is concern about the safety of those who are not provided with access to emergency accommodation. Approximately 53,000 requests for help were not acted upon during the month, and Guegen laments the lack of political action on the issue. Problems with the 115 line not meeting demand have persisted over months, but the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to the cold mean that the issue is particularly worrying during the winter months.
