The profile of homelessness in Portugal was raised by the visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Leilani Farha, in December. Her subsequent report on the situation of housing in the country contained recommendations on housing legislation, social housing, and homelessness, among others. With regards to homelessness, Farha encouraged a participatory approach in the creation of Portugal's new national homelessness strategy, as well as the inclusion of human rights and a commitment to end homelessness by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.
