The Department for Communities and Local Government responsible for England has released statistics showing that there has been a 16% rise in rough sleeping in England compared with the year before, with more than 4000 people sleeping rough each night. These figures are worrying, and show that more needs to be done to prevent homelessness in the country. Crisis UK point to the fact that homeless people are 17 times more likely to be the victims of violence compared to the general population as evidence of the urgency of tackling the problem of rough sleeping.
