On the 2nd of March 2017 The European Commission released a recommendation on making the returns of irregular third-country nationals more effective. This recommendation is unwelcome for homelessness services, because it pushes them to take part in deportation actions that are not part of their remit, as well as raising concerns for the safeguarding of fundamental rights. Organisations helping homeless people do not want to have to be in a situation where providing a person in need with services may lead to them being deported. See the full press release here.
