The National Audit Office (NAO) has written a damning report about homelessness in the UK. The report offers new figures and a sharp analysis of homelessness evolutions in the UK over the last years. It also contains recommendations for the Department for Communities and Local Government. The report reveals how welfare reforms, a lack of strategy and the UK government's light approach have contributed to the alarming increase in homelessness. According to the NAO, the light approach cannot be considered value for money. Numerous public figures have demanded an immediate response of the government to what they refer to as "the national scandal".
