John Bird, founder of Big Issue, has adressed the homelessness crisis in the UK at a celebration of the magazine's 26th anniversary. He fears the coming winter could be be the worst for over two decades. He also drew attention to the changing profiles of homeless people. According to Bird, there are now more young, very distressed women without a home. "I am not just talking about rising numbers [of homeless people], but also the fact money is going down and not up. It is likely to make future winters harder, and next year threatens to be even worse'" Lord Bird added.
