Dr Geoffry Shannon, Special Rapporteur on Child Protection, spoke at the launch of Cope Galway’s 2016 Annual Report in Ireland. He said "children forced to live in emergency accommodation are being deprived of their human rights," Shannon pointed out that homeless children do not have the same opportunities and warned that the experience could impact their mental health in the future and could lead to repeated cycles of homelessness into adulthood. Currently 3000 children are homeless in Ireland.
