In late August, the Berlin tram service, the S-Bahn, announced its plan to deter homeless people from loitering in tram stations by playing atonal, experimental music. Upon hearing the reports, local musicians championing contemporary avant-garde music were outraged at the use of art for this purpose. They organised a street concert in Berlin outside the Hermannstrasse station, where the scheme was to be piloted, to draw attention to the issue. The manager of the S-Bahn, Friedemann Kessler, made an appearance at the concert and agreed to scrap the plan. For more information, see here.
