FEANTSA Calls Attention to Women’s Homelessness on International Women’s Day
Women’s homelessness is on the rise throughout Europe and it is time to make specific plans to end it.
In the last year:
France saw a 22% rise in women requesting emergency accommodation.
Ireland saw was a 28% increase in women accessing homeless services over the last year.
Women’s homelessness is complex and there is a clear overlap with other support needs – for example, mental health issues, domestic violence, drug use and trauma.
There must be a gender lens to approaches tackling homelessness otherwise the cycle of violence, trauma, mental health problems and homelessness that so many women face will continue.
