On the 3rd of April the U.K. Parliament passed the new “Homelessness Reduction Act” in an effort to stem the rise of rough-sleeping. The main focus of the Act is to expand the timeframe in which local authorities assess a person as at being risk of becoming homeless, doubling it from 28 to 56 days. The Act also expands the responsibilities of these authorities to inform those at risk of free services on offer to them, including those regarding emergency accommodation as well as outlining their rights. The Act comes as a result of work from political representatives from across party lines, with the initial concept featuring contributions from FEANTSA member Crisis UK’s No One Turned Away Campaign.
