JULY 2024

Dear readers,
We trust you had a great start of the summer and we were excited to see some of you in June at the FEANTSA Forum in Vienna. Before departing on holidays, here comes our selection of news on migration and homelessness across Europe.
This issue of the FEANTSA migration newsletter brings you the latest updates on the many developments which unfolded in the first half of 2024. At European level, we witnessed some challenging months, as the final form of the Migration and Asylum Pact was finally adopted by the European Parliament (EP) and the Council of the EU. Following this adoption, the Commission swiftly published a Communication for a Common Implementation Plan to turn the Pact on Migration and Asylum into a reality and for supporting national governments to implement the Pact into national legislation. All these events and more took place in the context of the European Elections, when a new European Parliament was elected in June. A primary analysis of the elections raises concerns in regard to attitudes toward migration and asylum in Europe, as the shift to the far-right is noticeable in the new composition of the EP. This is also the case at the national level, with increasingly turbulent updates coming from the Netherlands, France or Germany where the rise of the far-right is observed, as well as an increasingly hostile attitude towards migrants.
In these worrying times, we remain committed to the realisation of the right to housing for all and we continue to pursue our work raising awareness on the experiences of homelessness among migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees across Europe as well as promoting inspirational work for support in inclusion and integration. In this newsletter, we collected the latest information about the political initiatives mentioned above, FEANTSA activities, and general updates regarding migration, asylum, homelessness and access to housing. We hope you will find these readings useful in your important work with people on the move!
